Q: What makes Hillcrest Children and Family Center different from other mental health organizations and agencies?

Answer: Hillcrest Children and Family Center is one of few mental health centers in the Washington, DC, area that is certified for substance abuse and behavioral health in children, adolescents, and adults. Therefore, we are able to provide care and support to children, youth, adults, and  families who are challenged with emotional and behavioral issues.

Q: How do I make an appointment?

Answer: You can make an appointment by calling (202) 232-6100. Ask for the Intake Care Coordinator. Walk ins are welcome at either location.

Answer: Our hours of operation are listed below.

915 Rhode Island Ave NW DC location (located near Shaw Howard U metro station)

Monday – Friday 8:30 am to 6:00 pm

Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Later evening hours available by appointment.

3029 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE Location (located near Congress Heights metro station)

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

8:30 am to 6:00 pm

Wednesday 8:30 am to 7:00 pm

Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Q: What type of health insurance does Hillcrest Children and Family Center take?

Answer: Hillcrest accepts the following insurances:

  • Amerihealth
  • Amerigroup
  • HSCSN (Health Services for Children with Special Needs)
  • DC Medicaid
  • Trusted DC Medicaid
  • Tricare
  • Self pay on a sliding fee scale

Hillcrest Center will accept some commercial insurance plans on a case by case basis. Please contact us for more information regarding your insurance coverage.

Q: What if I need to come in for an appointment and I don’t have money to pay?

Answer: Hillcrest Center has a sliding payment scale for individuals who do not have insurance but has some income. The rate of pay would be set based on your income. If you have no income, we will help identify resources that might cover the cost for your treatment. Services will not be denied due to your inability to pay.

Q: How much does an assessment cost?

Answer: If you believe you or a family member is in need of an assessment, call us! The cost of assessments vary and most likely will be covered by your insurance. We do not charge a “co-pay” for an office visit.

Q: Do I need to be a client to attend programs and classes offered at Hillcrest Children and Family Center?

Answer: Yes. You will have to be enrolled with Hillcrest Center in order for services to be provided to you. However, if you are interested in any Hillcrest Center programs, please call us at (202) 232-6100.

Q: Can I come to the center if I live outside of the D.C. area i.e. Maryland, Virginia, etc.?

Answer: Hillcrest Center provides services primarily for DC residents or DC residents who may be in foster care in the neighboring vicinity. For most of our programs, clients must have proof of DC residency.
