Housing Resources for Individuals and Families

Hillcrest case workers and staff have knowledge about District of Columbia housing information and resources that we are happy to share. Please don’t hesitate to ask our Hillcrest team about DC permanent and temporary housing options outlined below. Additional information is also available at: .

 District of Columbia Housing Programs

  • RRH-I is a short-term subsidy program that assists individuals experiencing homelessness in finding affordable permanent housing. Rental assistance and support services are provided for 12 months based on the household’s needs.

  • Targeted Affordable Housing (TAH) provides a permanent rental subsidy to households who need assistance obtaining and affording housing – often due to their age or a disabling condition.  Households in TAH are often connected to community resources and are able to maintain their housing without intensive case management.

  • Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) is an evidence-based intervention that combines housing assistance through a permanent rental subsidy with voluntary supportive services to address the needs of chronically homeless individuals or families. To be eligible for PSH, individuals or families must be homeless for more than a year or have had at least four episodes of homelessness in the past three years, and the head of household must have a diagnosed disabling condition.

  • Bridge Housing provides adults experiencing homelessness with semi-private rooms and individualized case management to support more effective connections to permanent housing.

Supportive Employment Services

Hillcrest’s Supported Employment program has been actively serving the community for the past six years. We initially began by supporting Community Support Team (CST) clients in obtaining and maintaining competitive employment. Shortly thereafter, we expanded our services to include individuals from the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program. Today, Hillcrest remains theonly provider in the city offering Supported Employment specifically tailored for individuals in recovery from substance use disorders.

Since the program’s inception, we have secured a total of 185 job placements. Our goal each fiscal year is to achieve 200+ total employment placements. To support this effort, our team conducts weekly job development outreach in the community to build and maintain strong employer partnerships. In addition, Hillcrest has collaborated with the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) to provide educational trainings to other providers.
