Educational and Supportive Services

In need of therapeutic based services for your child that educates them while providing counseling support? We offer the following educational and supportive services to assist your child’s every need:

Child Focused Therapy

Child Focused Therapy sessions are designed to improve family dynamics and resolve conflicts. Sessions provide comprehensive guidance and counseling sessions for children who are struggling with anxiety, life stressors, behavioral disorders, etc.

Counseling Sessions

Counseling Sessions provide tools and tips for children in their family dynamics. Session topics such as Family Systems Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy help to improve family dynamics and resolve conflicts. Sessions can be customized for children experiencing housing instability, trauma, or transitions like reunification or custody changes.

Parenting Groups

Parenting Groups services consist of quarterly workshops that offer tips for effective parenting, discipline, and tools for building child nurturing relationships. Workshop topics include managing child behavioral challenges, co-parenting strategies, and fostering emotional intelligence in children.

Youth-Focused Family Support Groups

Youth-Focused Family Support Groups provide grief and loss coping methods to deal with significant family dynamics and structural challenges. Our signature supportive resources include a group activity called “Restorative Justice Circles” that is designed to rebuild trust among families.

Financial Literacy Workshops

Financial Literacy Workshops are designed to teach children and adolescents how to budget, manage a savings account, and methods for financial planning to promote long-term stability.

Engagement and Enrichment Services

Behavioral health studies reveal the need for services that focus on family bonding in a relaxed, supportive environment. We offer one-on-one engagement with children through our “Family Engagement Events” such as Family Game Nights, Cooking Classes, and Paint & Sip Nights.

Additional enrichment services help with connecting children to housing and food programs.

Youth-Focused Family Support Services

We specialize in activities that consist of research proven services such as Art Therapy or Fitness Classes to engage young people in building stronger connections with their families. Examples of activities include museum outings and college tours.

Additional types of youth-focused sessions provide support for parents navigating the unique challenges of raising teens. Session topics include information on peer pressure, technology use addictions, and tips to foster youth independence.

Youth-Focused Advocacy and Crisis Intervention Services

Your child will benefit from our interactive Crisis Support Team that consists of trained intervention specialists on call for immediate needs. Our services include mediation for domestic conflicts and dispatch of emergency resources. We specialize in assistance with navigating the child welfare system and the juvenile justice system.

Our youth advocacy services provide guidance with accessing legal aid and school intervention. We provide extra care for Pregnant Youth and Young Parents by offering access to pre-natal care and peer support. Bilingual and culturally sensitive youth resources are offered to ensure inclusive and racial equity.

Telehealth and school-based behavioral health services are available

  • Clients with phones and computers will receive their services via videoconferencing and telephone.
  • Alternative arrangements will be made for clients without telephone access.
  • Clinicians are located in approximately 24 DC Public and Public Charter Schools

Hillcrest Children and Family Center is a behavioral health care and social services agency that provides behavioral health treatment and prevention as well as community and family support services. We are a private non-profit organization founded in 1815 by First Lady Dolley Madison and chartered by an Act of Congress. Throughout its history, Hillcrest has offered primary prevention and mental health services to children and families.

With a commitment to providing each client with the highest quality, cost-effective, and timely service to meet their needs, we promote wellness and the well-being of our service population, staff, and the general community. We use an income-based sliding fee scale to determine our rates. SERVICES WILL NOT BE DENIED DUE TO INABILITY TO PAY.
